The new 25,000 sq. ft. North Tampa Library was designed to replace a 12,000 sq. ft. building that was originally constructed in 1963. The new facility utilizes the limited site area to the fullest extent possible while incorporating community rooms, a children's room, a computer lab, study and tutor rooms, a "Friends of the Library" room, reading and stack areas and administrative functions. .

Among the challenges in the project was the severe slope of the site from east (front of the library), to the west (rear of the parking lot). Constructed of 2 colors of brick with a standing seam metal roof, the low, long horizontal lines of the library, with deep roof overhangs, take on a warm, welcoming "prairie style" look. The "stair step" front wall is another architectural feature of the library that was received well by the North Tampa community
